PASA Surety Committee hosted a new Country Day Webinar. This series of virtual seminars is devoted to discussing issues inherent to the diverse surety markets that make up our Association.
In this webinar, the PASA Surety Committee acted as moderator to provide an overview of the surety market in Panama. The webinar was introduced by Juan José Montes Fernández, President of the Surety Committee. The discussion was moderated by Carlos Luna Crudo, from Seguros Confianza, Colombia, and a member of the committee. Representing the Panamanian market were Ricardo Palomo from Acerta Seguros; Cesar Santamaría from Aliado Seguros; and Rubén Carles Cal from Assa Compañía de Seguros.
The topics covered during the discussion included:
- Panama Canal: specific contracting and associated guarantees. Companies’ capacity and the role of reinsurance.
- Public procurement: background and changes in the law.
- Private contracting: foreign investments and required surety bonds.
- Development of PPPs: regulatory framework and projects.
- Investment opportunities: local market expectations and support from reinsurers.
